Objective

All students at Canyon View High School are enrolled in FLEX (Flexible Learning Experience). FLEX is an intervention designed to help students receive academic support during the school day. FLEX will be utilized to accomplish the following:

  • Teach College and Career Readiness lessons
  • Provide students an opportunity to seek additional instruction, intervention and extension activities from their current teachers
  • Hold assemblies and school events
  • Meet regularly with an assigned teacher/advocate in the building

Grading

This is an academic course and will impact your GPA. Your grade will be a combination of FLEX participation and CCR assignments.

  • CCR: 30% of overall grade — College and Career Readiness and Growth Mindset Curriculum. These assignments will be in Canvas and must be completed within the assigned time frame.
  • FLEX (Ah-CV): 70% of overall grade — attendance, stamped slip, engagement, promptness, etc.

FLEX Grading

  • Student attendance as well as correct and productive use of FLEX time will be graded as follows:
    • 10 points per session
    • 5 points overall for being on time
    • Total points per FLEX period: 25 (15 points on Friday)
  • If you are tagged to a session and do not attend that session, you will lose those points.

Procedures

  • Class begins with the FLEX teacher, and students will receive their FLEX slip.
  • Students may be tagged (by the office or their teacher) for one or both sessions.
  • If tagged, you must report to that teacher’s classroom for that session. You will work on remediation, missed quizzes, etc.
  • If not tagged:
    • You may choose to go to one of your teachers’ open classroom for remediation or help, or
    • You will stay in your FLEX classroom where you can work on homework, projects, or have free time (to read, engage in structured activities, etc., at the teacher’s discretion).
  • If you are tagged by a teacher and have already completed that work, the teacher may stamp you out during the first five minutes of that session. You would then immediately move to another open classroom or return to your FLEX classroom.
  • At the end of the FLEX sessions, you must return your stamped FLEX slip to your FLEX teacher (before lunch).

Attendance

  • Attendance is NOT optional; this is an academic course focused on essential learning.
  • Students who are excused are required to complete missed CCR lessons. Excused students will have 2 weeks to complete missed CCR lessons.
  • Students who are unexcused will lose all FLEX points for the day and those points cannot be made up.
  • Students who are habitually absent will be referred to administration.
  • Students must return their FLEX slips to their teachers BEFORE lunch to be considered in attendance.

Materials

  • Bring your Chromebook daily.
  • Students need to bring materials to class that they may work on if they are not in need of intervention or enrichment with another teacher.
  • Reading materials are strongly encouraged.

All school policies, including cell phones, will be enforced during FLEX.
